Japan-born Panda Gives Birth to Second Pair of Twins

Nine-year old giant panda Rauhin gave birth to two tiny panda babies on Wednesday at the Adventure World in Wakayama prefecture, central Japan. This will be the panda's second set of twins in one of Japan's most productive panda breeding centers. Nearly 12 giant pandas have been born at the Adventure World in Wakayama, making it the most productive breeding center outside China for this endangered mammal. The babies, a boy and a girl, were born 19 minutes apart, weighing at 5.6 oz and 4.3 oz. Like all newly born pandas, both were born blind, toothless and hairless. The babies are yet to be named. There are estimated to be around 1,590 pandas still living in the wild, mostly in the mountainous regions of Sichuan.
